Northfield Buzz

Let's talk about real estate and how life's lived in Northfield, Illinois

If I'm thinking of moving to Northfield, what should I know about the relative advantages of the District 29 (Sunset Ridge) and District 37 (Avoca) schools?

Is there much of a difference between the two?

From what I have read on websites and Pioneer Press papers, the general opinion is that Sunset Ridge schools are preffered to Avoca's. Avoca's schools test higher and rank higher on most polls. One downside to Avoca schools is that they are far away from the area of Northfield that is serves. Children who attend Middlefork or Sunset Ridge will be able to walk to school and all their friends will come from the same community. Avoca serves unincorporated Winnetka, part of Northfield, part of Wilmette, and the portion of Glenview that is in New Trier Township. Then again as a person that builds homes and resides in New Trier Township, it is obvious why Sunset Ridge is preffered. The portion of Northfield that goes to Sunset Ridge is more desirable, prettier, newer homes, more affluent, etc. In my opinion I would not worry about Avoca vs. Sunset Ridge.
