Northfield Buzz

Let's talk about real estate and how life's lived in Northfield, Illinois

If you're a reluctant (though long-term) suburbanite like me you don't pay much attention to municipal boundaries. You go to certain places without being conscious of what city or village they're located in.

Living in Wilmette and Kenilworth for nearly 20 years has taken me to and through the tiny (3.3 square miles, 5,700 population) Village of Northfield hundreds and hundreds of times: to North Shore Soccer & More, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Starbucks, Northfield Restaurant, New Trier West (now known as the Northfield campus), Erickson Woods (pdf) and the Skokie Lagoons, the Dominick's on Willow, Josselyn Center, and the playing fields at Willow Park – among other venues.

And then there are the District 37 schools that I've always associated with Wilmette that, it turns out, draw their students from parts of Wilmette, Winnetka, Glenview – and Northfield: Avoca West and Marie Murphy.

All of those places are in Northfield – who knew?

I know it now only because I'm participating in NorthfieldBuzz, this new Web site focused on all things Northfield, with an emphasis on housing and how life's lived in Northfield.

NorthfieldBuzz is exclusively sponsored by Bonnie Larson, a Northfield resident, and Linda Martin, a Winnetka resident. They're both real estate professionals with Coldwell Banker's Winnetka North office.

Join us as we wander around Northfield, meet the people and visit the places that give this village its distinctive flavor, and show you Northfield as you've never seen it before.
